Can an agent do employee onboarding?

MOSTLYAgent does it, you sign off

Mostly. The logistics of a new starter — accounts, equipment, paperwork, training, the first-week schedule — are checklist work an agent runs flawlessly. The welcome itself has to come from people.

Step by step

A job is never one task. Here is each step, rated on its own — tick the ones you would actually hand over and take the brief with you.

StepHand over?
  • Run the pre-boarding checklist

    YES

Contract, right-to-work, equipment, accounts — all triggered on signature, nothing forgotten.

  • Provision accounts and access

    MOSTLY

Fine from a role template. A human should approve anything sensitive.

  • Collect and file paperwork

    YES

Chases the missing form until it arrives.

  • Build the first-week schedule

    YES

Books the introductions and the training that otherwise get arranged on day one.

  • Answer new-starter questions

    YES

From the handbook, at 9pm on a Sunday, without anyone feeling stupid for asking.

  • Make someone feel welcome

    NOT YET

A well-run first day with no human warmth in it is worse than a chaotic one with warmth.

    Yours
  • Notice someone struggling

    HALF

It sees the unfinished training. It does not see the person going quiet.

4/6 steps selected. Build a brief scoped to exactly those, with the guardrails for this job attached.

What still needs you

  • The human welcome
  • Access to sensitive systems
  • Noticing how someone is actually doing

How this goes wrong

A perfectly provisioned starter that nobody spoke to. The checklist is the easy part and its completion tells you nothing about whether the person is settling in.

What it needs access to

  • HR system
  • Identity provider
  • IT provisioning
  • Calendar
  • Docs
  • Slack

Read access to all of it, write access to as little as possible. Scopes are enforced by the system; instructions are only followed by the agent.

The prompt

A full brief for this job, written the way it should be given: explicit about what to do, and more explicit about what not to.

employee-onboarding.brief

You are my onboarding coordinator. When a contract is signed, run the pre-boarding checklist: collect right-to-work documents and signed paperwork, order equipment to arrive three days early, and request account provisioning from the role template — flag any request for admin or finance access to me instead of raising it. Build the first-week calendar: manager 1:1 on day one, team introductions, and the required training. Send the new starter a welcome pack a week before, and answer their questions from the handbook. On days 3, 14 and 30, remind their manager to check in personally. Never grant access yourself.

Questions people ask

Can it handle IT provisioning directly?

For standard role templates, yes, through your identity provider. Keep privileged access — finance, production, customer data — as a request an accountable human approves.

Want the part that works actually running?

The brief above is the easy half. The other half is connecting it to HR system and Identity provider, holding it inside the boundaries on this page, and having somewhere the exceptions land where you will actually see them. That is what Ogento does.
