Can an agent do?

Can an agent run a restaurant’s admin?

The back office, yes. Bookings, supplier orders, rotas, invoices, reviews and stock are agent work. The floor, the kitchen and the welcome are not, and in hospitality those are the entire product.

Hospitality margins are thin and the admin happens between services, which means it happens badly. Agents are worth having for bookings, supplier ordering, review responses and the weekly numbers nobody has time to calculate. What they cannot touch is the reason people come back, which is a person who is glad to see them.

Questions people ask

Can an agent answer the phone?

For bookings and opening hours, yes, and it will never miss a call during service — which is where restaurants lose most bookings. Route anything that sounds like a complaint straight to a person.

Should it reply to reviews?

Draft, do not send. A generic reply to a bad review is worse than no reply, and the good ones are an opportunity to sound like a human being.
